Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines
  • Reads and interprets work orders, blueprints, and drawings to perform machine operation and ensure accurate production
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task
  • Performs first piece inspections and records dimensions to ensure conformance
  • Performs a variety of operations including vertical broaching and tapping
  • Mounts fixtures to hold parts and produce internal threads of all sizes
  • Responsible for burring and removing excess material from parts
  • Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary
  • Responsible for upkeep of machines including cleaning, filling oils, coolants, and other necessary maintenance

 Supplemental Functions:

  • Ability to do set ups on all machines
  • Works with management to meet production goals and continuously improve products
  • Identifies needed fixture repairs and communicates to supervisor
  • Follows all safety and housekeeping procedures and maintains a safe and clean workstation

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints to manufacture parts to specifications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks
  • Knowledge of machine operations such as drilling, tapping, spot facing, hollow milling, and broaching
  • Skilled in the use of measuring instruments such as dial calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, tape measures, and tramming tooling
  • Knowledge of process evaluation and new parts approval
  • Understanding of operational speeds and feed rates for a variety of machines and  materials (i.e. carbide tooling and high speed steel)
  • Proficient in shop math

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1-year previous machining experience preferred
  • Apprenticeship or vocational school training preferred
